Vertical Technologies, Inc. (VTI) was incorporated in 1996 by Steven Mania, to facilitate his vision of providing state of the art environmental consulting services, with a focus on challenging, complex assignments.  Soon after incorporation, VTI acquired Environmental Connection, Inc. (EC) and Contamination Control Engineering, Inc. (CCE), as it began its successful journey in pursuit of Mr. Mania’s original goals.

Environmental Connection, Inc. (EC) was incorporated in 1983 and maintains its focus of delivering Industrial Hygiene consulting services to its many public and private sector clients. Initially centering around assisting School Districts with compliance of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), EC developed a software compliance tool which produced reader friendly asbestos management reports and continues to serve several dozen school districts with AHERA compliance, with a unique focus on responsiveness.  EC also actively supported the State of New Jersey, and participated in the environmental Agency Consultant Contracts as they were developed, providing varied industrial hygiene services on call.  To this day, EC maintains those contracts and, due to its institutional knowledge regarding State of New Jersey environmental criteria, is consistently engaged as a team member in Division of Property Management and Construction (DPMC) projects.  Today, EC remains driven to provide leading edge, technically proficient consultancy from a holistic perspective and grounded in building sciences, for the plethora of environmental issues facing building owners and their facility management teams.

Contamination Control Engineering, Inc. (CCE) was incorporated in 1984 and was also geared towards industrial hygiene consulting in the State of New Jersey, but soon grew to become a leader in investigations, integrity monitoring and litigation support.  CCE has long provided the New York City Schools Construction Authority (SCA), Industrial and Environmental Hygiene Division with support services, starting with Operation Clean House in 1991, where CCE was retained by City of New York to assist with the investigation and revamping of the troubled AHERA program.  Due to the success with that effort, CCE was regularly engaged by the New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) to inspect various construction and abatement projects for nefarious practices.  In 2001, CCE joined the team chaired by Thacher Associates, to provide integrity monitoring during the clean-up of the World Trade Center disaster.  CCE’s tenure persisted into the reconstruction project from 2006-2011.  CCE has continued to provide risk management, policy development, operations support, litigation support and integrity monitoring for the SCA, New York City Housing Authority, Philadelphia School District and numerous law firms among others.
